Photonics – saviour of data centers
More bandwidth, higher speeds and lower energy costs
As of 2018 more than 4 billion people worldwide are using the internet. Data traffic is growing at alarming rates and expected to double in size in the next three years. In the foreseeable future the current silicon chip based internet infrastructure will be unable to cope with the ever-increasing demand for bandwidth.
Photonics technology reveals the way forward with the creation of ultrafast chips and fibre optic cables based on light sources. By using light as a way of transmitting data these technologies far outperform the existing copper solutions. The speed photonics technology offers is indispensable in transitioning from 4G to 5G broadband. Continue reading “Photonics – saviour of data centers”
