Mobile Virtualization will enable the Internet of Things

Red Bend Software, the market leader in Mobile Software Management (MSM) with more than 1.6 billion Red Bend-Enabled devices, announced the availability of a new IDC White Paper, sponsored by Red Bend

Titled “Mobile Virtualization: Accelerating Innovation in Next-Generation Services,” the paper predicts an unprecedented opportunity for the use of virtualization technology in the next generation of mobile phones and connected devices. The paper was published in September 2012.

According to the IDC white paper, virtualization technology will go beyond smartphones and tablets, becoming the core technology to enable the “Internet of things,” including the growing number of wirelessly connected devices, sensors and machines. IDC believes that by 2020, approximately 30 billion devices will be connected, each requiring cost-effective use of software, integration with legacy systems, enhanced security and faster time to market. Mobile Virtualization will play a significant role in solving these issues in the next generation of smart devices for a number of reasons, including lowering the bill of materials (BOM) on mobile devices, ensuring security for employee-chosen devices and enabling the reuse of existing software assets.

The report analyzes how the mobile industry must move aggressively to leverage Type-1 mobile hypervisors to take advantage of new market opportunities, including:

– Enterprise: Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)
– Automotive Industry: Faster Time to Market
– Manufacturing: Extending Investment in Software
– Consumers: Securing the Digital Life
