Extended – Product Lifecycle Management – Presented by Herman Smits, USG Engineering & Martin Arens, Thales

Extended – Product Lifecycle Management – Presented by Herman Smits, USG Engineering PLM&CAD & Martin Arens, Thales-Nederland, at the Intelligent Sensor Networks Conference on November 08, 2017, at High Tech Campus Eindhoven, The Netherlands.

At the High Tech Systems Park in Hengelo, Thales has established the Smart Industry FieldLab ‘the Garden’ with a number of parties. Within ‘the Garden’ there are currently four projects executed. One of these projects is about introducing and implementing Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) in the industry. Martin Arens, Project Manager E-PLM and Herman Smits Business Development Manager USG Engineering, take you into what is being developed in the E-PLM project. Not only the technical content and tooling side are exposed, but also the work processes and skills of people to collaborate and share knowledge.

Herman SmitsAbout Herman Smits
After a career in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Mr. Herman Smits moved into the areas of PLM and IoT.

As a BDM for a specialized team of consultants and member of the Steerco E-PLM, he signals the merge of digital – and physical worlds and the opportunities it offers industrial companies.

Colin Smith caught up with Professor McCann to find out more about sensor networks and why we should sit up and take notice of this new project. Continue reading “New Project to Ensure Vast Sensor Networks of the Future are Dependable”

IoT is all about sensors and the data that sensors produce

The Internet of Things (IoT) is all about sensors and the data that sensors produce. It’s less about the physical things that have a functional purpose, and it’s more about what becomes possible with the data that is produced by the sensors in those things.  This is especially true when you combine the sensor data from one thing with sensor data from other things, such as combining a truck’s location data with weather condition data 100 miles down the road. How wireless “X-ray vision” could help with motion capture, fall prevention and even your heating bill (Video)

How wireless X-ray vision could help with motion capture. A team of researchers at MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab (CSAIL) has long believed that wireless signals like WiFi can be used to see things that are invisible to the naked eye.

Since 2013, CSAIL researchers have been developing technologies that use wireless signals to track human motion. The team has shown that it can detect gestures and body movements as subtle as the rise and fall of a person’s chest from the other side of a house, allowing a mother to monitor a baby’s breathing or a firefighter to determine if there are survivors inside a burning building. Integrators to Benefit from Smart City Security Needs

“The UK capital performed well in the rankings due to its adoption rate for smart technologies, from street lighting to traffic management. But hooking up a few streets to intelligent systems does not make a smart city. As with all ambitious city-wide initiatives, security has a major, early stage role to play.” says James Hill electronic security sales manager, NG Bailey’s IT Services division.
