The Art of Connecting to the IoT – Presented by Jeroen Langendam, ItoM, at Internet of Things Event 2017 , which takes place on Jun 08, 2017, at High Tech Campus Eindhoven, The Netherlands.
The Internet of Things is revolutionising products. Connected products are made possible by bridging the worlds of embedded design and the design of IoT applications, resulting in innovative product-service combinations.
These two worlds apply different design methodologies. In general, the hardware and firmware design for embedded devices, is less flexible than designing IoT (platform) services. There are many pitfalls ahead in balancing to the right time-to-market, design costs, and quality.
The question how to ‘connect’ these two design methodologies in practice is illustrated by an actual creation of an innovative product service IoT application in the field of Art…

“The possibilities and chances of the Internet of Things are by far greater than most people can imagine,” according to Stijn Grove, managing director of the Dutch Datacenter Association (DDA). “In the past years more and more electronic equipment got connected, that is what started Internet of Things to grow. For instance, the once so much used mobile phone has become a smartphone with an app for calling someone. But the device itself offers far more possibilities with many different apps that can be used for a great number of different things. These developments are going faster and faster nowadays and offer a host of possibilities and challenges.” Continue reading “Slow and steady development is accelerating – Interview with Stijn Grove, Dutch Datacenter Association”

Fast and industrial prototyping of key modules for Smart Systems – Presented by Jan Mink, VTEC Lasers & Sensors & Sieger Swaving, Philips Innovation Services, at the Internet of Things Event 2017, which takes place on Jun 08, 2017, at High Tech Campus Eindhoven, The Netherlands.
The increasing level of integration and complexity in to-be-developed smart systems requires low entry access to fast prototyping for quick technical verification and early customer demonstration. Speed in prototyping is not only a matter of a creative and pragmatic approach finding new solutions to conflicting requirements, but also a matter of maximally using proven process flows, platforms and components. So much the more because about 80% of the key product properties like manufacturability, cost price and reliability are defined in the development phase. The DX-lab of VTEC and the Greenhouse Micro-assembly factory of Philips Innovation Services have the infrastructure and expertise to provide fast prototyping, not as an isolated activity, but as a first step towards new product introduction and volume manufacturing.
