From Intelligent (IoT) Sensor to Plant Reliability – Presented by Martin Blenkers, IJssel Technologie

From Intelligent (IoT) Sensor to Plant Reliability – Presented by Martin Blenkers, IJssel Technologie, at Intelligent Sensor Networks Conference, on January 18, 2019, at Rotterdam AHOY, Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

The way in which innovation, intelligence and plant awareness are at the center of reliability.

What drives you?
Our mission is simple, to provide a cost-effective means of managing all the key reliability elements without compromise on quality, plant awareness or integration. It’s mind blowing what you could do when you start to integrate reliability technologies like vibration, oil sensors, IR etc… with process related data.

What emerging technologies/trends do you see as having the greatest potential in the short and long run?
In the short run – accurate, open data sources, the ability to have good quality maintenance (reliability) data available in a format that enables the development of A.I. / development of new technologies like BL5 and 5G and improve Battery capacity.

But a Sensor without contexts could be one of the greatest pitfalls – understanding what we want to measure and how to do this is for the short term essential for the development of A.I.

Long run: smaller / cheaper / longer lasting sensors – ability to integrate data even more. – More complex A.I. systems. But in this is also the Risk of having a “Black Box” – to what extend are industry read to put there trust in this idea?

What kind of impact do you expect them to have?
It will definitely help us face the challenges in near future. The need for increased productivity with an aging population, the ability to remain competitive in a fast changing global market. But at the same time it brings fast social challenges, changing jobs, how do we keep up with technology and ensure we stay relevant (Smart People)?

What are the barriers that might stand in the way?
One of the biggest challenges are peoples ability to comprehend and adapt – organizations are slow in transforming, and the rapid pace of change causes organizations to form groups of innovators and early adapters but also large groups of laggards. This forms a enormous social challenge.

Why should the delegate attend your presentation?
For most organizations IoT and Plant Reliability are a far cry form there daily routine. Understanding that our world is changing and we have to adapt, I hope to provide them with a practical approach to IoT and how to integrate this into their daily activities. Start small, gain experience but make the move.
