SABMiller has launched the world’s first packaging that tells you whether your beer is at the perfect drinking temperature. The new ‘smart sensor’ technology allows a temperature sensor embedded within a pack to accurately display the coldness of the beer inside at the bush of a button.
This innovation builds on the colour changing (thermochromatic) ink concept which changes colour when the beer is cold, as famously used on bottles of US beer Coors Light, where a mountain range turns from white to blue. This colour changing ink, remains transparent at ambient temperatures but reveals a blue colour when the beer reaches the desired drinking temperature. The company’s new smart sensor shows people precisely what temperature their beer is so they know exactly when to open their favourite brew.Read more
