“SMART Station Amsterdam: Big Data to manage Big Crowds” – Presented by Eelco Thiellier, Royal HaskoningDHV, at Intelligent Sensor Networks Conference, November 15, 2016, at High Tech Campus Eindhoven, The Netherlands.

SMART Station Amsterdam

Appointed by the Netherlands Railways (NS), Royal HaskoningDHV has been accurately measuring the complex pedestrian flows of Amsterdam Central Station since the beginning of May. The insights enable NS to optimise the often complex pedestrian flows. Tracking and counting sensors at the station’s entrances and exits pick up are used, including WiFi tracking from mobile devices, such as mobile phones and tablets.

The practical process how to come to a successful implementation is discussed, with topics like:

– Client questions that can be answered by measuring

– What sensors to use and accuracy of sensors
